SUBJECT:
REVIEW AND COMMENTS ON IMPACT-BRC USER'S MANUAL I have reviewed the above User's Manual documenting version 2.o of the IMPACTS-BRC computer code.
My review emphasized the pathway analysis and dose calculations.
In general, the mathematical models used for pathway analysis; transference factors; dose models, and dose conversion factors are consistent with the current methodology for dose assessment.
I have a few minor comments:
1.
Table 5-2 Use of default values for the radionuclides the rationale should be considered by IMPACTS-BRC given in Table 5-2.
It is not clear that the solubility classification is for inhalation or for ingestion purposes.
If ingestion values are nct included, then what default values should be used?
Some of the transuranium elements such as Am, Cm and Np are W compounds according to ICRP-30 which is consistent with the next table 5-3.
It is not clear why these radionuclides are listed as Y connounds for default values in Table 5-2.
2.
Table 7-91 Transference or Uptake Factors -- Original sources of these factors, such as from NRC Reg. Guide 1.109 should be referenced.
NCRP-76 only summarizes all these original sources.
The contribution to development of most of these transference factors by NRC should be recognized.
This comment applies to other factors used i
in this document.
