All the otherc had football games.
3 By the time I got home, I missed half of the feature, 1
4 half of the newscast.
i 5
So, I wanted to check with you and see if you might
]
l 6
want to head to Las Vegas?
j 7
Huh?
Yes.
Let me tell you what's up.
)
8 There's a show out there the week of the 13th of L
9 November.
Okay?
It actually runs all week.
1 10 I called yesterday to get tickets.
TWA has a special 11 fare.
The others may have one, too, but I saw the ad for TWA, 12
$110 each way, $198 roundtrip.
13 So, I called, and I was able to get one leaving 14 Saturday, the lith, and coming back Thursday, and then when I 15 was talking to Martha about it last night, she didn't know I 16 was planning to go.
17 I've been trying to find a room.
I haven't found a 18 room yet.
I've been trying to go through the convention or the 19 csnvention itself.
Usually, you know, I go through the press 20 department, but their rooms are already gone, but I do know 21 somebody who works for the company.
l 22 I'm still looking around for a room, but I figured, 23 too, you know, all it would take would be --
24 Yes.
Well, you don't have to do that.
In fact, you 25 know, I'm sure I can find a double room with a double bed.
But
O 5
l' the I was thinking if I'm looking for accommodations, then if I 2
knew you were going, then T should try to find a double bed or 3
something.
4 True.
Yes.
True.
Yes.
5 We've done that before.
Where was it we were?
6 Yes.
Yes, that's right.
Yes, that's right.
And you 7
just walked in and -- but now, you've got a better bag, right?
8 Or a better -- maybe you don't.
i 9
Yes.
Yes, right.
Anyway.
10 You know, I don't know, but I called the travel agent 11 yesterday.
I booked the tickets on my own, but I called the 12 travel agent, ard I told her I hadn't been able to find a room.
13 So, she was going to look around.
She thought there might be a 14 condo-like room -- right?
-- for that period of time or l
l 15 something else, and she wondered if I would mind being far 16 enough away where I'd have to rent a car, and I said well, you 17 know, as long as I'm near public transportation, or if I had 18 to, I could rent a car, but then I got to thinking, and gee, 19 you know --
20
[ Transmission noise.)
21 VOICE:
Number five.
22 VOICE:
We could -- if we could get out there, we 1
23 could stay -- you know, even stay 20 miles away or something, 24 stay at a little motel outside of town and do some sightseeing, l
25 go to the Grand Canyon and, you know, this and that.
l
a 6
1 I've been out a number of times, but they've gone out 2
there and, you know, made trips from there.
3 So, anyway, I just wondered if you wanted me to try l
4 and book a ticket in the same flight, or you know, another 5
possibility is -- let's see I booked coming back Thursday.
If 6
I couldn't one in the same flight, I might be able to get one 7
for me coming back Saturday.
I could stay a couple of extra 8
days, and you could come back Thursday or something.
9 Right now, I've got one ticket going out Saturday i
1 10 afternoon, coming back Thursday, midday, but you know, what I'd 11 try to do is get one on the same flight.
12 Huh?
Yes, I'm fine.
13 Well, the convention is the week of the 13th.
It's l
14 that whole week, but with the TWA thing, you have to -- you 15 have to be overnight on Saturday night._ Okay?
l 16 Anyway'-- and then -- on'the 16th.
That's what I 17 reserved.
18 I could get something on the same flight.
Of course, 19 if I had thought of it, I could have gotten two tickets.
20 No.
21 Well, that's what I mean..
In other words, I tried to l^
22
-- but it could be -- see, it's a special fare.
So, it could 23 be they only have like 5 per flight or 10 per flight or 24 something, and they may have sold out of that flight already.
25 You've never been out there right?
- Yes, I would x
O 7
1 think that would be --
2 That's right.
3 Plus you'd be able to go into the computer show.
4 Right?
5 Yes, I'm sure I could it, yes.
In fact, even use 6
mine.
It's the right name.
You could walk in sometime I'm not 7
there, you know, with my badge.
8 I figured with this -- you know, they had the special l
9 fare.
I I
10 Now, let's see.
Actually, no, I couldn't come back 11 either, because it says travel not permitted on November 17, 12 18, 21, 22.
So, you'd have to stay out either until Sunday, 13 the 19th, or -- you know, probably, the best thing is try to 14 get one the same -- you know, on the 16th, leaving the lith, i
15 coming back the 16th.
16 Well, why don't I try it?
And I'll let you know.
l 17 Okay?
But you know, I think it would be -- oh, no.
She's l
l 18 never been to Las Vegas and doesn't have any interest in going, l'
19 you know.
And I've been, you know, any number of times, and I 20
-- it's just that this is a big show, and you know, my next 21 show is in Germany in March, and I figured, well, I wasn't 22 really planning on going to this one, but then I figured, well, 23 the. software.
What was that software?
24 Something like that.
25 Oh, I loved that.
8 l
1 Yes.
Ie 2
Okay.
3 If it's up there -- I'll look for it later.
Yes.
4 Yes.
5 Why don't I call them, and -- gee, I wish I had 6
thought of it, you know, before calling them yesterday, but I 7
didn't or, you know -- I wasn't even planning this.
What 8
happened was finally another check came in, although it was a 9
small one, and I said, gee, you know, I'd like to make plans, 10 and it's a shame to miss this show, and I've got the Toshiba 11 laptop, right, which has been (inaudible), but I mean I've got 12 a way to demonstrate the database.
13 I've had a lot of inquiries, and you know, it's a way 14
-- I mean --
15 Yes, the same show in Chicago, I guess, back about 6 16 months ago or so, but they hold it twice a year.
17 So, you know, it's the only thing before winter, too, 18 in terms of a show.
19 Anyway, so ist me try TWA, and --
20 Yes.
21 I'll let you know.
Yes.
Okay.
22 (Pause.)
23 (Transmission noise.)
24 (Pause.)
25 VOICE:
I purchased a ticket under the -- yes,
.. ~....
t 9
I exactly.
Anderson.
And it's going out on 3:45 out of Boston 4
2 on November lith.
-- travelling, you know, the same time, over 3
and back.
So, you could give me coming back.
4 Returning, you have 2:32 p.m.?
I had booked -- a.m.
5 I was told that was the latest I could leave.
6 Have been ticketed.
So, mine can't change.
Okay.
7 Can you ticket another one leaving on the same flight but
~
8 coming back at 2:32?
That would be fine.
Return available on 9
that date?
10 I'm juniort he's senior.
His should -- in fact, why l
11 don't you make this one junior.
What we're going to do is come 12 back on that later flight.
13 No, I just had the idea yesterday of, you know, I 14 want him to come along.
i 15 He's 67, He's never been to Las Vegas.
16 SPEAKER:
The time is 9:30 a.m.
i l
17
[ Pause.)
18 VOICE:
Right.
j L
19 (Pause.)
20 VOICE:
Right.
21 (Inaudible) is fine.
22 okay.
Thanks a lot.
Yes.
Right.
Bye-bye.
23 (Pause.)
)
24 VOICE:
[ Inaudible.)
25 (Pause.)
1
10 1
VOICE:
I wanted to check on a free-wheels deal --
2 Vegas.
Do you have a site there?
3 The lith of November.
Arriving the lith.
4 I'm sorry.
It would be picking up on --
5 VOICE:
Five.
(Inaudible.)
6 (Transmission noise.)
7 VOICE:
Well, let me see, but maybe not, though.
I'm 8
not sure where we're staying, so we may to drive some.
Why 9
don't you check on the lith?
10 (Pause.)
11 VOICE:
A.M.
Okay.
Coming in at 11:51.
So, I don't 12 know.
It would be cutting it close.
13 Yes.
Exactly.
14 So, why don't we say the 12th?
May 16th.
15 (Transmission noise.)
16 VOICE:
[ Inaudible.)
17 (Pause.)
18 VOICE:
Right.
Yes.
19
[ Pause.)
20 VOICE:
I want the smallest -- yes, cheapest 21 available, really.
22 (Transmission noise.)
23' VOICE:
(Inaudible.)
24 (Pause.)
25 (Transmission noise.)
11 1
VOICE:
Five days.
2 Right.
3 (Inaudible.)
Right.
Okay.
4 (Tranumission noise.)
5 VOICE:
Number five to [ inaudible) 4, please.
6 Intrusion at that location.
7 (Transmission noise.)
8 VOICE:
Right.
Okay.
Sounds good.
Is that 9
available?
10 Yes, definitely.
11 Anderson.
12 Right now, I'm looking for a room.
So, at least this 13 will give me some flexibility, assuming the car is available.
14 If it's not, then we're going to have to --
15 (Pause.)
16 VOICE:
I've got travelling -- yes, the (inaudible).
17 Just to make sure, you said midnight on the 12th, 18 which is -- I mean -- really -- what is it 12:01 or 12 a.m. on 19 the lith, or you know -* why don't you do that, just so there 20 is no confusion or whatever?
Right?
You know, it's somehow 21 the next day.
Right?
(Inaudible.)
22 Yes.
Put 11:59 p.m.
Yes, the lith.
23-In terms of days, it doesn't matter.
Yes.
Right.
24 Because we're --
25 Well, you know --
l 1
\\
i p
12 1
Thanks a lot.
Right.
Yep.
2
[ Pause.)
3 VOICE:
So, you want to go, huh?
4 Yes.
i 5
Yes.
I just got a car.
Yes.
Yes.
I just called 6
TWA, and -- funny, they had seats going out, but on my flight, 7
they were sold out coming back, but I was able to get a little 8
later flight.
So, what I'll do is have you come back at 9
whatever, 11:56.
Now, you know, it will be a problem getting 1
l 10 into Boston, because you don't get in until, what, 9 p.m.
l Il Okay?
My flight, because it leaves later, about 2 hours2.314815e-5 days
5.555556e-4 hours
3.306878e-6 weeks
7.61e-7 months
later, 12 won't get in until midnight.
l 13 So, we can decide what we do from there, but that's 1
14 all they had, and they did have -- unfortunately, on this later i
15 flight, they had two seats, and originally, when I called, they l-16 said they didn't have anything later than 11:46.
17 Reserved.
Yes.
18 And actually, I was thinking it was during the day on 19 Saturday.
It isn't.
We don't leave until 7:26.
With the time 1
20 change, at 11:51, which is really going to be 3 in the morning, 1
21 our time, Boston time, so we'll be tired, but that's -- so it l
22 gives you all day Saturday to -- right.
l 23 So, they're going to mail me the tickets.
So, 24 sometime, you know, before I have to pay my American Express --
25
$99 or less anywhere in the U.S.
l
cc -
13 1
Yes, but you have to buy the tickets before the 20th 2
of October.
Okay?
And begin travel before --
3 So, anyway, then as part of this, as part of the ad, 4
they have Alamo rental car, and it's called a " Free Wheels 5
Deal", and I got a car for $22 a day, which is really cheap.
6 So, 4 days or 5 days -- the first day is free if you stay a 7
minimum of 2 days.
Five days for $91, which is really --
8 Yes, it's a Geo Metro, which is a small car, but it 9
doesn't matter.
p 10 Right?
So, we could stay anyplace.
Right?
We could 11 eaally stay 10, 15, 20 miles away.
Right?
Do a little 12 sightseeing, whatever.
This and that, yes.
13 I never had a rental car when I've been out there, 14 because I've always just flown --
~
15 We'll have all Sunday off.
See, the convention 16 doesn't start until Monday.
Right?
So, normally, I'd spend l
17 Sunday just getting ready and putting things -- you know, but l'
18 this way, we'll have Sunday off, and then, you can go places l
19 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
20 Now, of course, looking for a room, I don't know 21 whether I'd tell them I want a double.
I definitely do want to 22 get two beds.
I mean it'd be nice to have --
23 Yes.
Yes.
Right.
24 The other thing we can do -- I'd rather have a place, 25 you know, right in by there, rather'than not have to travel.
I n
e 14 1
mean we could always just get in, get the car, head out and i
1 2
look for a motel, you know, and the first one we see that's no 3
vacancy, but we'd probably be better off trying to get 4
something in there.
I'm going to have to come in every day.
[
5 Yes.
6 You know, I don't know who is going to be there.
Of 7
course, I'll start to get -- they have a preliminary newspaper 8
that Comdex puts out.
9 (Inaudible.)
1 10 If I was working for IDC, I'd have to be there all 11 the time the show is open.
This way I can pretty much decide, 12 although 3 days doesn't give me a lot of time to see the show.
13 Yes.
14 (Inaudible.)
l 15 I didn't think the car would be available, either, 16 because this is a huge convention, but --
(
17 That's what we're thinking of doing.
18 (Transmission noise.)
1 19 VOICE:
Number five, control zone 3, trouble on the 20 1200.
21 (Pause.)
22 VOICE:
Oh, yes.
Yes.
Twenty dollars.
23 Yes.
Yes.
24 Well, in fact, it wasn't the -- you know, there were 25 two problems.
I mean the thing in the back there, the DC
l l
15 I
1 connection, was a loose connection inside, which is what'we 2
triggered, and then the problem with the [ inaudible) was he 3
didn't find -- he could find anything, and it's funny, I 4
brought it back -- well, I brought it over there, and it worked 5
fine.
We plugged it in.
Right.
Of course.
Right?
And there 6
was no problem.
And then he said, well, he'd take a.look at 7
it, he really didn't know.
8 And then I got it home and it was back loud again, 9
and you know what I did?
I just tapped it in the top.
There's 10 something loose in (inaudible) -- tapped it.
11 SPEAKER:
The time is 9:45 a.m.
12 VOICE:
No, I didn't.
He said bring it back.
13
[ Inaudible.)
14 That's his hourly rate,.I think, is $20, or ninimum 15 rate or whatever it was.
16 (Pause.)
17 VOICE:
He's reasonable.
18 He's in North Hampton, right by the Ski Shed, right 19 along [ inaudible).
So, he works on a lot of different stuff.
20 I mean the VCRs and the TVs.
21 Not that I know of.
l 22 Yes, I did.
Yes, I went back and got the film.
23 (Inaudible.)
24 Anyway, so you were asking about the (inaudible).
25 What we figured -- I looked at the lease, and as of
c e
I' 16 1
the end of October, if we don't want to lease to them or if 2
they dor.'t want to lease from us, maybe I'll move back 3
[ inaudible).
i 4
It was partially renovated.
5 Should be doing more, working for the company.
6
[ Inaudible.)
7 The only way we'd sell it to them -- first, I'd go 8
out [ inaudible) and get it appraised.
9
[ Inaudible.)
10 Would be up around 200, 225 or something.
11 The place next door is for sale.
You know, that 12 house that Bob's friends lived in?
Yes.
Well, it's still for 13 sale.
It was never sold.
14 No, sorry, it was. sold, but the woman that was there 15 died, and the estate sold it.
L 16 Yes, and he renovated it.
Yes.
And then he kicked 17 the friends of Bob's out, because he had buddies [ inaudible).
18 It rents for $225.
L 19 So, you know, the assessment's up for me.
I think 20 it's around 190, which is s.upposed to be 100 percent.
21 So, anyway, I thought, you know -- yes.
22 I thought of that, too, actually.
Right.
23 Yes.
In fact, I told the guy next door, not the guy I
24 that owns it, but the other guy, that, hey, you know -- well, I 25 knew it was still for sale, and I said, gee, if we put ours on
F 17 1
the market right now, you might get somebody who would come in 7
2 and say, hey, I want both properties, and tie them together, j
3 you've got all that land, you've got parking, good for both 4
places, you know, whatever.
Somebody could do something with 5
both, although it might be a pretty big chunk, and they've had 6
trouble solling theirs because [ inaudible).
7 Well, the thing is, of course, we've got our house.
8 I suppose we could always -- yes, you know, it's a place, be a 9
good place for business, and a good place to live.
Right?
L 10 Right across from the school.
You could always live like here.
11 of course, Martha wouldn't want to live here.
12 I bought it -- yes, I bought it figuring, well, we 13 could live upstairs, and you know, when we're retired, and you 14 know -- but --
15 Probably.
16 Well, yes.
(Inaudible.)
l 17 A lot of things to consider, like (inaudible).
L 18 But you know, the other option --
l 19 (Pause.)
20 VOICE:
We wouldn't have a lot of room upstairs.
l 21 of course, the other thing we could do --
p 22 (Pause.)
23 VOICE:
(Inaudible.)
Oh, exactly.
There'd be no 24 way.
Right.
25 On the other hand, I haven't been doing that.
I
18 1
don't have to do it.
2 of course, if we lived next door, we could always go 3
rent some space here.
4 We own both places.
5 I talked to them about selling to them.
They said, 6
well, you know, gee, if we bought it, we could have an interest 7
in renting the basement from us, because if we needed the 8
space, and you know, I said, well, that would be a possibility.
9 They would be wanting to look, probably, for extra 10 income to support their mortgage.
11
[ Transmission noise.)
12 VOICE:
[ Inaudible.)
Jim, do you copy?
13 VOICE:
Until they needed the space.
Until they 14 needed the space, right.
They could always rent just an 1
15 apartment or whatever would work.
16
_I don't know.
Of course, we only have to give them 2 17 weeks notice with first refusal.
I don't think we have to give 18 them 6 months, but I just started thinking about it.
L 19 We wouldn't terminate the lease, I mean they're a l
20 perfect tenant.
l 21 Yes.
22
[ Transmission noise.)
23 VOICE:
F-2, this is F-1.
Go ahead, Bob.
24 VOICE:
Yes, Lonny, this is Tom.
I'm just letting 25 Tim know that I'm hanging on the ball.
I'm going over to
y.
i 19 1.
number 9,-exit 9.
I need a little fire control there, too, w.,
?
It's a bad roll.- So, when we get done there, I'll probably be 3
headed in.
l-1 4
[ Transmission noise.)
5 VOICE:
