During' seasonal periods when inclement weather with accompanying hazardous road =

Safe havens are indicated on the route strip charts by a lower case letter of the alphabet in parenthesis.

These safe havens were designated by the NRC Route Analysis teams with the assistance of law enforcement agencies along the route, as available, for temporary refuge until appropriate assistance arrives.

The basis criteria used to identify a safe haven were availability of a large parking area, nighttime lighting, where possible, and rapid law enforcement response to the safe haven.

Should a safe haven be needed, refer to the following list for its specific identification and location.
