Physical Protection of Shipments of Irradiated Fuel (81310)

The inspector verified that: the shipper (Edlow International) had made the shipment notifications required by 10 CFR 73.37(f)(2) and that the notifications contained the information required by 10 CFR 73.37(f)(3),

arrangements had been with the Virginia Port Authority Police for support and assistance during the time that the shipment-was at the Portsmouth L

Marine Terminal in accordance with 10 CFR 73.37(e), and communications checks were made in accordance with. the provisions of 10 CFR 73.37(b) during the_ time that the shipment was in port.

The ' inspector surveyed the shipment with - a calibrated Eberline ESP-2 meter.

Beta gamma readings on contact with the outsidef of the USA /0388/B(M)F container were less that I mR/hr.

Smears taken from the i

package surfaceL read, af ter correcting for the detector's efficiency, less than 800 counts per minute (beta gamma).

F No violations of regulatory requirements were identified.

Exit Interview The inspection scope and results were summarized on February 12, 1990, with those persons indicated in paragraph 1.
