Subject:
Application for Termination of License with a Submittal of a Decommissioning Plan for the University of Virginia CAVALIER 100 W Reactor (NRC Docket 50-396, License No. R-123)
Gentlemen:
Please find enclosed a proposed Decommissioning Plan for the University of Virginia's 100 Wow Ci.VALIER reactor, submitted in support of this application for operating licenso termination. The submittals are being made pursuant to the recently revised 10 CFR 50.82, 40.5 and 70.5. The decommissioning of the CAVALIER and the termination of its license are sought in lieu of a conversion to Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) fuel. The plan and application have been reviewed and approved by the U.Va. Reactor Safety Committee.
Please note that the present submittal substitutos the U.Va.
CAVALIER dismantling plan of January 5, 1988, and vacates the request for a possession-only license mado at that-time.
The expeditious review and approval of this_ plan by the NRC, the issuance of an order authorizing CAVALIER decommissioning, followed by license termination, is much appreciated.
