20555 Subj ect: McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Numbers59-369 and 50-370 Cat rawba-Nuclear Station Docket Numbers 50-413 and 50-414 Generic. letter-89-14; ' Removal of-3.25' Limit on Extending Surveillance Internals On August 21, 1989, the NRC issued Generic Letter 89-14, "Line Item Improvements in Technical Specifications - Removal of the 3.25 Limit on Extending Surveillance Intervals.".This Ceneric Letter (GL) encouraged licensees to submit proposed _ changes to Technical Specifications (TSs) to delete a requirement'in Standard TS 4.0.2 that any 3 consecutive y
T-surveillance intervals may not exceed 3.25 times one surveillance interval.

_In'accordance with this GL, attached are proposed changes to the Facility Operating Licenses for McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 1 (FOL NPF-9) and Unit 2
-(NPF-17) and Catawba Nuclear Station Unit 1 (NPF-35) and Unit 2 (NPF-52).
This' change has been approved as a lead plant line item TS improvement.

The marked-up pages from the TSs of the respective stations are included as.
A justification and safety analysis is -included as Attachment
- II, and Attachment III contains an analysis which supports a conclusion that-t no significant hazards considerations are involved.
