Dear Ms. Parsons:
I am responding to your letter of November 6, 1989 addressed to John Greeves, Deputy Director, Division of Low-Level Waste Management and Decommissioning. A similar letter from you-was received by Ramon Hall, Director of NRC's Uranium Recovery Field Office in Denver. Mr. Hall's December 7,1989 response to you,
- which was coordinated with sty staff, pointed out that NRC does not have regulatory authority over mines and mine tailings and that uranium mill
. tailings in Colorado where you have proposed initial application, are regulated by the State under an agreement with NRC.
In addition to your contacting
- commercial mine.and mill operators, you may also wish to contact the Department of Energy (D0E) regarding.their interest in the use of your process. The DOE L
contact is Sally Mann. U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, l'
NE-22, Washington, DC 20454.
L If we may be of further service, please do not hesitate to contact me or Ramon Hall-in our Denver Office.

Sincerely, ORfGHAL SMED BY.
