Jet Pump Hold-Down Beam Replacems

//Z %h NRC Docket No. 50-373 Dea r Mr. Schwencer:

The purpose of this letter is to formally document our commitments regarding jet pump hold-down beam replacement made to Mr. A. Bournia during discussions of this subject.

The revised heat treatment jet pump hold-down beams recently supplied by the vendor will be installed in LaSalle County Station Unit 1 prior to fuel load.

The actual replacement is already in progress.

This commitment was made with the understanding that the requirement to perform a visual and ultrasonic inspection during each refueling outage until the original hold-down beams were replaced would not be included in the final facility operating license.

The decision to replace the jet pump hold-down beams is based on the expected increase in service lif e resulting from the high temperature annealing and hot working procerses along with the decreased pre-stress loading of the beam.

The vendor's preliminary data to support the longer service life, which was discussed with the NRR reviewers, is being augmented with test results which are expected in early 1982.

If there are any questions in this regard, please contact this office.
