This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information is as initially received with-i out verification or evaluation,and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

x Notification of Unusual Event Naval Products Alert Uncasville, Connecticut Site Area Emergency DN 70-371 General Emergency Not Appitcable BOMB THREAT
Subject:
At approximately 1:05 a.m., October 1,1981 a site security officer received a telephone call from an unidentified male who stated, "There is a bomb set to go off at one o' clock.
Beware" The call was received on an outside phone line.
Since the call was received af ter 1:00 a.m. it is eet known if the caller's reference to time was 1:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
A search was conducted of the outside areas of the facility.
i At approximately 7:30 a.m.,
October 1, 1981, the licensee's Crisis Management Team met and decided to extend the search to all indoor areas of the facility.
This search is currently being conducted.
The facility was not evacuated after receipt of the call and 4
j the licensee does not intend to evacuate the site ai, 1:00 p.m.
A similiar bomb threat was received in August 1981. The security officer-who received the August 1981 call is of the opinion, after listening to a tape of the call, that both calls were made by the same person. The Connecticut State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation have been invited this morning to listen to the tape.
The IAT has been notified.
The Connecticut State Police, the Department of Energy and-the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been notified by the licensee. A Region I security

inspector onsite on a routine inspection will monitor the licensee's activities.
This preliminary notification is issued for information and no further action by IE is anticipated.

NRC Region I (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence from s-Duty Officer on October 1, 1981 at approximately 2:15 a.m.
