NRC Enforcement Conference This will confirm the telephone conversation with a member of your staff on August 24, 1981 concerning an enforcement conference to be held between NRC management and Alaska Industrial X-Ray management. We will arrive at your office at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3,1981. The following matters will be discussed with you:

Noncompliance observed during the last inspection at Alaska Industrial X-Ray.

Appendix A NOTICE OF VIOLATION 2 F Alaska Industrial X-Ray License No. 50-16084-01 4047 Kingston Street Anchorage, Alaska 99504 As a result of the inspection conducted on August 6,1981, and in accordance with the Interin Enforcement Policy, 45 FR 66754 (October 7,1980), the following violations were identified:

10 CFR 34.24 requires that radiation survey meters be calibrated quarterly.

Contrary to the above requirement, survey instrument No.' 0090 was last calibrated by a licensed calibration facility on October 20, 1980.

Subsecuent calibration of survey irstrument No. 0090 performed by

.,l the licensee on February 12, 1981 was not authorized by the license and was performed with an 8 uCi cesium-137 source of unknown calibration.

Survey instrument No. 0090 was utilized numerous times by radiographers during March and April of 1981, a period of three months after the

Contrary to the above requirement, no temination reports were filed with the Director of Management and Program Analysis within J.
