Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. 1 and 2; Dockets Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 Pressurized Thermal Shock (P'"S) to Reactor Pressure Vessels centlemen:

We have reviewed your letter of August 21, 1981 regarding Pressurized *herral Shock to Reactor Pressure Vessels. Having consulted with Combuc'. ion Engineering, our NSSS vendor, and with the Combustion Engineering Owners Group; we have determined that we vill be able to submit infornation as follows:

Infornation Requested Within 60 Days :

a) Items 1 and 2 vill be answered within 60 days.

b)

Ve do not think that a siuple UDTvaluevillprovbmLimit.

Item 3 requests an RT e an appropriate limit for continued RT operation.

(See c) below) c) Item h requests the basit for our proposed RTNDT Limit. We are working with the CEOG to develop the methodology for establishing acre reasonable criteria for a limit to continued operation.

As soon as this has been done, we vill forward a description of our methodology and its basis. We expect to be able to provide this information within 150 days.

d) Item 5 vill be answered within 60 days.

Information Recuested Within 150 Days:

a) ire vill submit a plan defining actions and schedules for resolution of this issue within 150 days. The alternatives listed in your letter vill be incorporated in this schedule.
