Dear Sir:
/
g o,
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)
Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Generic Letters
Reference:
Letter Dr. Bernard J. Snyder to G. K. Hovey dated May 4, 1981 The purpose of this letter is to request a distribution of all generic letters periodically (propose 6 months) in addition to the procedure for handling generic letters described in the reference letter.
This will allow GPU to create and maintain a complete file of generic letters which can subsequently be addressed if a decision is made to refurbish TMI-2.
As a result of the reference letter, GPU recognized that, at some future time, another similar request may be made by the NRC.
In addition, these eeneric letters provide valuable guidance on a wide variety of subjects even though not directly applicable to TMI-2 at this time. Also, a review of all genaric letters would be necessary if a decision to refurbish TMI-2 were contemplated.
Recognizing these needs, a telecon was initiated with Mr. D. S. Brinkman of your staff.
Mr. Brinkman agreed that he could make a 6 months distri-bution of all generic letters. This periodic distribution will satisfy GPU's needs and minimize the impact on current NRC workload. We would propose that this distribution begin on Ot tober 1, 1981 to include all generic letters generated since the reference letter and continue every 6 months after that date. GPU would like to emphasize that the procedure described in the reference letter for reviewing generic letters applicable to TMI-2 in its present mode should be maintained and the proposed 6 month distribution is in addition to that procedure.
Please advise GPU if you agree with this proposal or if you have any questions regarding this subject.
If you have any questions, please 0'(
