Dear Mr. Haynes:
Your letter dated August 18, 1981 enclosed IE Bulletin No. 81-02, Supplement 1 which relates to potential failure of gate type valves to close against differential pressure.
In responce to the bulletin supplement, it was ascertained that Indian Point 2 does not have any 6-18 inch nominal size Westinghouse Electro-Mechanical Division manufacturered motor-operated gate valves installed, or maintained as spares for installation.
Therefore, as provided in Action Item 2 for Licensees, no further action is required on this matter.
With recard to Indian Point Unit 1, the plant was shutdown on October 31, 1974 and is presently in the defueled condition and is no longer licensed to operate as a reactor.
The subject of this bulletin is therefore not applicable to Unit No. 1.
