! Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes an interim report under 10CFR50.55(e)

, rega-ding defects in Rosemount Model 1152 Pressure Transmitters with output Codes "A" or "D". Rosemount Inc. notified the NRC under 10CFR Part 21 that the mentioned transmitters produced ambiguous output currents under extreme over or under pressurized situations.

An investigation of available options indicated that the best alternative was to replace the "A" or "D" output circuit boards with "E" boards which did not appear to have the problem. A quotation was obtained from Rosemount for replacement boards.

On August 18, 1981, as a purchase order was about to be placed for i "E" boards, a Rosemount Bulletin was received which stated that at an undetermined minimum r..diation exposure, the "E" boards also experience the same ambiguous output problem. Since all of the Zimmer essential

' transmitter will receive some degree of radiation, simply replacing the boards is no longer a total solution.

In light of this information, the systems containing such transmitters

, will be analyzed for the most adverse conditions of prese 1 e and radiation which they may experience to determine whether or not any of them could experience the phenomena in question. We will inform you of the results of our analysis by October 30, 1981.
