In compliance with paragraph 50.55(e),of 10 CFR Part. 50, we are enclosing the first interim report on the subject deficiency..We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this nonconformance. The original submittal date

Description of Doriciency This deficiency concerns the failure-of General Electric Company,. San Jose, California, to hydrotest the GE-NSSS-supplied flued haad process line of the main steam penetrations before attachment c=' th guard pipe supplied by Ametek. Parar.raph NB6321 of ASME Section III requires that all mechanical welded joints of ASME Class I lines shall be left uninsulated an1 exposed for visual examination during hydrotesting. The m
guard pipe attached to the flued head process li.1e preverits proper inspection of the welds during hydrotesting of the system.
Interim Proeress TVA has notified GE of this nonconforming condition. GE is in the process of evaluating this deficiency to determine the necessary corre(iive actions. TVA will submit the next report to NBC on or before February 6, 1982.
