Gentlemen:
This letter is to request continuation of our license to use nuclear powered pacemakers when appropriate at the Mercer Medical Center. Our license number is SNM1694 and our docket number is 70-2430.
At present we have only two patients in whom we have inserted nuclear; pacemakers. These two patients are regularly followed by this department.
We do not project any large use at this medical facility of nuclear pac ' makers in view of the progressive longevity of alternative power cells. There still, however, remains the occasional individual where a nuclear powered device would be appropriate. Consequently, we are desirous of maintaining our license.
Should a nuclear device be implanted in the futtre at this hospital, Dr. William H. Hardesty would be the >perating surgeon and Dr. John C. Wood the advising cardiologist.
Dr.
Hardesty is board certified in thoracic surgery and Dr. Wood in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine.
