Subje^t: Notification of a Potential Defect Relating to the Rules of 10 CFR 21 (Evaluation 81-01)

This will confirm the telephone conversation on 9/8/81 between Mr. Dan Fox of your office and our QA Manager, Mr. Nabil Keddis, in which we have asked for one month extension to provide you with our final evaluation of the Tornado Venting System for Comanche Peak, Units No. 1 and No. 2.

During this period, we intend to conclude our analysie in the following two areas: (1) the effects of depressurization on electric equipment cabinets and (2) an estimate of internal wind velocities. This will enable us to determine the tornado environment under which the electronic equipment cabinets will function during a tornado.

We intend to complete our detailed investigation by October 9, 1981 at which time we-will notify the NRC of the results.
