In accordance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR Part 50, we are enclosing the first interim report on the subject deficiency. REPORT NO. 1 (INTERIM)

Description of Deficier;Z This noncor.formance concerns the possible failure of TVA to comolv with the reporting regulations of 10 CFR 50.55(e). General Electric (GE) has not been advising TVA of GE-initiated potentially reportable conditions (PRC's) or of GE- or C. F. Braun-initiated STRIDE Design Deficiency Reports (SDDR's). GE has not been evaluating these PRC's and SDDR's for reportability in ac ordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e). GE is contractually obligated to evaluate PRC's for 10 CFR 50.55(e) applicability and had previously agreed to advise TVA of all C. F. Braun- or GE-discovered nonconforming conditions (PRC's or SDDR's). This deficiency originated fren a TVA quality assurance audit (audit No. 81V-18) held at General Electric in San Jose, California.

Interim Procress GE is in the process of evaluating this deficiency to determine the necessary corrective action (s) in order for TVA to comply with 10 CFR 50.55(e). TVA is continuing the investigation of this matter and will submit a second report on or before November 9, 1981.
