Areas Inspected:
Special announced inspection by a region-based inspector to obtain samples of ground water taken from wells located on UNC Recovery Systems property. The inspection involved 11 inspector-hours onsite by one region-based inspector.
Results: No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.

Sampling of Ground Water The purpose of the special inspection was to obtain' samples of the water from wells on the_UNC property which were sampled by the NRC in July 1980. Samples were also taken from the deep wells installed in April and May 1981. The following wells were sampled.
W-B 77-B T-3 W-3 77-D T-4 W-8A DH-1 (25-35 ft)
T-6 W-11 DH-1-1 (72 -74 ft)
T-7 W-12 OH-2-2 (89-90)
T-9 76-U DH-2-1 (105)
The United States Geological Survey also took-samples from the deep well -
DH-1, DH-1-1, DH-2-1, DH-2-2, and well T-6.
They performed field measurements of the specific conductivity and nitrates as nitrogen on the samples they took. The licensee took field ineasurements of the temperature and specific conductivity. These values are reported below:

3 The samples from the BARCAD samplers, DH-1-1, DH-2-1 and DH-2-2 were taken immediately as the water was lifted from the sampler.
The licensee took a gallon sample, the NRC inspector took a liter sample, and the USGS bydrologist took a 500 milliliter sample.
The samples from the other wells were taken after water was pumped from the wells for at least 10 minutes.
The licensee took a 2 gallon sample and the NRC inspector took a liter sample, 3.
Exit Interview The inspector met with whe licensee representative (denoted in paragraph
- 1) at the conclusion of the inspection on July 31, 981, and discussed the scope and findings of the inspection.
