Dear Mr. Kintner:

Reference:

Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant, Unit 2 NRC Docket No. 50-341

Subject:

Seismic Design: Basis for Computing Combined Responses In reference to a finding by the Structural Engineering Branch, the procedure for combining horizontal and ver-tical seismic components will be added to the FSAR in the next amendment, as noted in the following:

Section 3 7 2.1.2.4 In the original design performed in 1971, horizoatal and vertical seismic effects were not combined in structu.al design. In sub-sequent analyses, the maximum effectsoof the two horizontal com-ponents were combined with the vertical component effect by the SRSS rules. The results of the reanalysis confirm the adequacy of the original design.

If there are any questions, please contact Larry E.

Schuerman at 313-649-7562.

Sincerely, Yh h W. F. Colbert
