Letter G02-81-0180, dated July 15, 1981, r$b/ J'Q/

R. G. Matlock, Supply System to R. H. Engelken, NRC The reference transn Itted an interim report describing a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e) relating to the lack of appropriate Quality Class I coating procedures for work inside con-tainment under Contract 215.

The interim report stated that a failure of the coating system could result in paint becoming detached and then deposited in the suppression pool where it could plug ECCS suction strainers. In addition, it was stated that the failed coating could hamper proper drainage, plug access to downcomers, and increase contamination levels in the water.

The purpose of this letter is to advise you that the Supply System has determined this deficiency to be not reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).

It is unlikely that sufficient quantities of paint would flake off to adversely affect safety systems. Corrective action has been taken
