Dear Sir:

Tne referenced letter transmitted the Safety Evaluation for the Environmental Qualification of Safety-related Electrical Bluipnent installed at the FitzPatrick plant, ard requested the subnission of additional information by September 6, 1981. The Power Authority requests that tnis date be changed to allow nore time to obtain and compile the requested information.

The requested extension is necessary due to the following:

1. Extension of the scope of the response to the Safety Evaluation and the increase in the level of justification required bf the NRC staff, which the NRC made known during tne July 7 - 10 nneting in Bethesda.
2. Consideration of the clarifications provided by the NRC staff during the same meeting. g s

3. Delays encountered by the Authority in obtaining qualification information aM in identifying suitable gaalified replacement equipment.
4. Tne Power Authority's efforts to corduct an extensive j analysis to determine the functional requirements aM operating times of all of tne components identified in the

' original submittal, ard to incorporate this information into cG:.ponent evaluation sneets to be provided to the NRC.

'Ibe analysis identified in item 4 above nas been completed. The effort to hcorporate the results of this analysis into revisions to the component evaluation sheets is in progress at this time.

'Ihe Power Authori'cy intends to suunit a response to the referenced letter, as clarified during the Bethesda meeting, by October 15, 1981.
