'v @g's DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLANT - SEP TOPIC IV-1.A - OPERATION WITH LESS THAN ALL LOOPS IN SERVICE NRC letter dated October 9, 1979 completed the safety assessment of SEP Topic IV-1.A for single loop operation. The assessment noted that a::ceptability of the topic is contingent upon the licensee's agreement to:

1.

Include in a procedure for N-1 loop operation a statement that the bypass and isolation valves in the inactive loop be closed during N-1 operation.

2.

Physically lock-out power to the inactive pump.

3.

Incorporate the MAPLHGR limits for N-1 loop operation in the Technical Specifications.

Consumers Power Company has incorporated these coatingencies in appropriate plant procedures.

Items (1) and (2) are addressed in the Big Rock Point Operating Procedures Manual - System Operative Procedures (SOP 29). The procedure specifies in part the following:

Two reactor recirculating loops shall be in service unless otherwise specified by the plant superintendent or reactor engineer, or an emergency procedure. Extended power operation (greater than one hour) with only one reactor recirculating loop in operation, requires that the suction, discharge and discharge bypass valves of the inactive loop be closed and the controls caution tagged, that the inactive pump oe opened and caution l

tagged, and ---.
