4b On July 27,1s81, Dr. H.J. Pettengill and Mr. G.G. Eadie flew to th4r/

Denver, Colorado airport and held a brief meeting with Rocky Mountald'dN' Energy Company to discuss their request for a hearing regarding the March 26, 1981 order to Amendment License SUA-1310 (i.e., order implementing 40CFR190). Specific locations for the continuous airborne particulate and radon gas samplers were discussed.

It was agreed that the liccnsee would submit a revised environmental monitoring program (EMP) which would pemit satisfactory assessment of dose comitment for 40_CFR 190 compliance determinations. Upon NRC's approval of such an EMP, the license would withdraw their hearing request; therefore, no further action would be required on this matter.

Then, continuing their trip on July 27. 1981 Dr. H.J. Pettengill and Mr. G.G. Eadie travelled to Rapid City, South Dakota. On July 28, they drove down to Edg eont, South Dakota. The Battiise radiological field hole gamma logging for an engineering assessment (ys and performing bore team was observed while conducting radiation steve EA). Details of the operation of the gamma detector and the finalization of the protocols for the mini-EA and the full-EA were reviewed. Battelle will expedite the completion of the full-EAs so that the number of_ structures requiring remedial action and their associated costs may be determined.

A brief tour of the Edgemont mill site was also taken. The old mill building and equipment in the process areas are being dismantled but all material and equipment remain on-site. Three piles of unprocessed ore remain on-site. The tailings ponds were observed and appear to be partially stabilized by vegetation. The proposed site for the ultimate disposal of the tailings was also observed.
