SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD AT BIG ROCK POINT PLANT ON JULY 28, 1981 TO DISCUSS PROPOSED ALTERNATE SHUTDOWN CAPABILITY On Tuesday, July 28, 1981, members of the NRC staff and consultants visited the Big Rock Point Plant. The purpose of the visit was to walk-down and discuss those plant areas involved in the licensee's proposed alternate shutdown capability for fire protection purposes (Appendix R to-10 CFR Part 50). A list of attendees is enclosed.
Systems necessary to get to hot ihutdown and cold shutdown were discussed.
CPC intends to install the alternate shutdown panel in the room that contains the post-incident cooling pumps and heat exchanger. A new battery will be installed in the stairwell outside this room. Topics discussed included:
1.
Proposed monitoring of reactor shutdown via steam drum pressure as opposed to the more direct indication of flux.
l 2.
Time required before reactor makeup is needed.
l 3.
Possibility of controlling reactor coolant pressure (and, therefore, I
reactor coolant temperature) using the emergency condensor.
l 4.
Measurement of emergency condensor shell-side makeup flow. '
l 5.
The DC valves on the discharge side of the emergency condensor will be l
powered from the new battery. The current DC power supply will be disconnected, l
s CPC representatives stated that they will provide a written response to
\\
the additional information needed by the NRC as discussed during the meeting.
