Dear Mr. Grier:
The referenced letter requested that we provide your office by July 24, 1981 confirmation that the implementing date for the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section IV.D.3 has been met. The purpose of this letter is to provide that confirmation and to supply a brief description of our method of implementation.
Specifically, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company has installed a radio-activated siren system within the 10 mile plume exposure pathway Emergency Planning Zone
- (EPZ).
The design objective of the system is to have the capability to essentially complete the initial notification of the public within the plume exposure EPZ within about 15 minutes. The system was operational on June 29, 1981.
As described in the Calvert Cliffs Emergency Respon e Plan and the State of Maryland Radiological Emergency Plan Annex Q and Appendix Q-1, the County Civil Defense organizations will activate the sirens to alert the public within the EPZ to turn on their radios and television sets to the already operational Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) for instructions as to the actions to be taken by + hem. Parts of Calvert, Dorchester, and St. Mary's Counties lie within the 10 mile EPZ.
The sirens are zoned in the following manner:
1.
In Calvert County, the sirens may be activated in the ares from 0 to 5 miles and from 5 to 10 miles independently or they may be simultaneously activated from 0 to 10 miles; 2.
. In St. Mary's County, all of which lies between 6 and 10 miles from CCNPF, the sirens are all activated simultaneously; 3.
In Dorchester County, all of wh.ch lies between 7 and 10 miles from CCNPP, the sirens are all activated simultaneously.
