Dear Sir:
Your letter of June 19, 1981 stated that NRC was planning to upgrade the Emergency Notification System (ENS) at the Trojan Nuclear Plant beginning August 1, 1981. You requested information regarding PGE logistics support for this upgrade.
The following logistics support is available for an anticipated systems upgrade start date cf August 1, 1981:
1.
Timely access for telephone company representatives to make a site survey and subsequently for installing station packages for the upgrade 2.
Adequate cable facilities (cable pairs) 3.
Telecommunications planning personnel to serve as primary contact during the modification. (Contact:
Jerry Ried, Telephone No. (503) 556-3713)*
The existing ENS stations at the Trojan Nuclear Plant are as follows:
Control room: north wall and jack for mobile phone Shift Supervisor's office Health Physics office: Control Building Elevation 45 ft Resident Inspector's trailer Technical Support Center: Administration Building

St. IIelens District Office Conference Room, 1771 Columbia Blvd., St. Helens, Oregon (Contact: Bob Gilmore, Telephone No. (503) 397-1133)*
The station in the current TSC is temporary until the new TSC (which is under construction) is completed. The new TSC will be operational by October 1, 1982. The location of the ENS in the new TSC has not been established.
Your letter stated that power to the ENS package should be the same as that in the control room (ie, preferred power). The ENS package will be located in the communications room on Elevation 61 ft of the Control Building where preferred power is not presently available. A Plant design change to provide preferred power at this location cannot be accomplished by August 1, 1981. Lacking schematic diagrams of the ENS package, it is estimated that this design change may not be accomplished until startup of Cycle 5 (July 1982).
In the interin, the ENS package can be readily connected to nonpreferred plant power.
Sincerely, t
j Bart D. Withers Vice President Nucl ear c:
