At 4:30 p.m. on July 26, 1981, a security guard on patrol w
.t t Fuel Area observed the following message written on the floor: "Bom go off July 31, 1981." A small notepad was found at the scene with another message which said "So you think your (expletive deleted) security is so good - try to find that bomb before 7-31-81.
I love a good explosion."
A spray cleaner can found at the scene appeared to have been used to spray the floor and the message was written in the resulting spray residue.
The licensee notified key management personnel and local law enforcement authorities including the Maine State Police, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and FBI Office in Boston, Masscchusetts.
The licensee recalled eight off duty security guards and, with the assistance of plant operations and maintenance personnel, conducted a search of all plant areas.
The search was completed at 10:25 p.m., July 26, 1981 with negative findings.
The licensee reported to Region I at 8:00 a.m., July 27, 1981 that the Maine State Police would arrive at the site today to assist the licensee in an investigation.
No press release is planned by the licensee or Region I.
The IAT has been notified.
Region I also contacted the FBI in Boston.
This Preliminary Notification it issued for information only and no further action j
by IE is presently planned.
Region I received notification of this matter by telephone from the IE Headquarters Duty Officer at 6:10 p.m., July 26, 1981, who had received the initial licensee ENS notification at 5:00 p.m., July 26, 1981.
