HARTSVILLE AND PHIPPS BEND NUCLEAR PLANTS - REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY -

LINK ROD ASSEMBLY - DELAVAL DIESELS (NCR DELAVAL NO. 1)

Initial notificatica of the st.Nec'., deficiency was made to 'T-0IE, Region II, Inspector R. W. Wright on October 27, 1980. Th first interim report was submitted on November 26, 1980. In compliance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR Part 50, this letter constitutes the third interim report on the subject deficiency. We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this nonconformance.

Transamerica Delaval has stated that it will send an inspect *r to Hartsville and Phipps Bend at TVA's/TCI's mutual convenience. As this will not occur before emplacement and assembly of the subject diesel generators, it will be at least until then that the diesels remain in their present nonconforming status. The emplacement and assembly is envisioned as taking place in the late 1980's.

As requested by Pete Taylor of NRC-0IE on June 5, 1981, TVA will submit annual reports on this NCR in order to maintain documentation of this NCR and ensure its proper disposition.
