Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
YELLOW CREEK NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - UNVERIFIED SEISMIC ANALYSIS FOR FINAL DESIGN - ICRD-50-566/S1-04, YCRD-50-567/81 SECOND INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector R. W. Wright on February 12, 1981, in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR YCN YCP 8101. This was followed by our first interim report dated March 13, 1981. Enclosed is our second interim report. We expect to submit our next report by October 28, 1981.
If you have any questions concerning this matter, please get in touch with D. L. Lambert at FIS 857-2581.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY f~~h[

ENCLOSURE YELLOW CREEK NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 1ND 2 UNVERIFIED SEISMIC ANALYSIS FOR FINAL DESIGN YCRD-50-566/81-04, YCRD-50-567/81-03 10 CFR 50.55(e)
SECOND INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency During review of design drawings, it was discovered that the final design had been completed and construction drawings 14 sued based on preliminary seismic analysis. This nonconforming condition occurred for the essential raw cooling water (ERCW) pumping station, equipment hatch access platform, and waste management building. Engineers failed to observe the seismic input had not been verified.
Interim Progress TVA is proceeding to complete the seismic analyses for the structures in question. The status of these analyses are as follows:
1.
Essential Raw Cooling Water Pumping Station The final seismic structural analyses has been checked and verified. An evaluation of the verified seiemic structural loads on the structure has been completed with no changes required to the original design.
The final seismic floor response spectra has been made but has not been verified.
2.
Equipment Hatch Access Platform The final seismia structural analysis has been checked and verified. An evaluation of the verified seismic structural loads on the structure has been completed with no changes required to the original t 'gn.
3 Waste Management Building Because of design changes to the structure, a new seismic analysis has been made, checked, and verified.
An evaluation of the new seismic structural respcnse loads on the structure has been completed with no changes being required in the original design.
The new loads were of smaller magnitude than the original loads.
The final seismic ficor response spectra has been made but has not been verified.
