Dear Mr. Cunningham:

As you suggested during your recent visit to Hematite, a meeting was held with Mr. R. G. Page and Dr. F. D. Fishcr to discuss preparation id sub-iaission of radiolooical contingency planning information. This meeting was very helpful in clarifying the purpose and intended use of the requested infomation.

Most of the items outlined in the attachment to the order to modify our license have already been submitted in various licensing documents and environmental impact information. The required plan involves consolidation of this material ii; a nca format and will partially evolve frota preparation of the SNM-33 license renewal, which also requires extensive revision to follow the format of the new regulatory guide. While concurrent preparation of two extensive documerits is not normally feasible with our limited staff, numerous areac of commonality will enable use of certain data for both purposes, particularly the sections dealing with site and facility descriptions, process and manufacturing systems, equipment arrangement and engineered provisions for abnormal operations. The renewal application for SNM-33, wnich expires March 31, 1982, will be completed by January 31, 1982.

Therefore, we hereby requ.st an extension of the submission date for the radiological contingency plan to January 31, 1982. Although we appreciate your operational time constraints, the rec, uested extension will not affect emergency preparedness at the dematite site since we currently have ari approved site emergency plan incorporating radiological contingency planning.

Thank you for your interest and consideration.

Very truly yours, CCMBUSTION ENGINEERING, INC.
