RESPONSE

On October 16, 1980, TVA responded to your letter dated July 24, 1980 which transmitted IE Bulletin 80-18 on Adequate Minimum Flow Through Centrifugal Charging Pumps. A supplemental response was submitted on j

November 17, 1980.

The modifications described in our October 16, 1980 response to the bulletin were determined to constitute an unreviewed safety question (USQ) in accordance with 10 CFR 50.59. We notified NRC-NRR of this J

determinc. tion on November 18, 1980 and requested that they approve the implement,ation of the modification for Sequoyah unit 1.

R. L. Tedesco's letter dated June 29, 1981 to H. O. Parris provided approval.

The modifications described in my October 16, 1980 letter will be imple-mented on Sequoyah unit 1 during the next outage of sufficient duration.

The next planned outage for unit 1 is scheduled for September 1981.

TVA will have the modification implemented on Sequoyah unit 2 before initial criticality.
