Gentlemen:
Please be advised that our architect / engineer has revised its block wall structural computer program and additional analyses have been performed for Plant Hatch concrete masonry walls.
I&E Bulletin 80-11, " Masonry Wall Design," requires the re-evaluation.
It has been determined that one (1) additional wall requires a minor modification.
The modification is required to lower a calculated stress at one localized section of the wall to within allowable stresses during an earthquake.
The affected wall is identified as Cl30-39A & 398 on Page A-2 of Appendix A in the 180-day bulletin response submitted to you by our letter dated November 4, 1980.
A modification, which will reduce the calculated stress of the affected wall to within 'allowables, will be performed in accordance with Design Change Request (DCR) 81-10.
The magnitude of the overstress condition is small and would only result in local cracking without excessive wall deflections or wall collapse.
This overstress condition was reported to NRC by Unit 1 Licensee Event Report (LER) 1981-031.
In addition, as stated in our November 4, 1980 response, access to the main stack was not possible during the initial re-evaluation period.
The main stack has recently been surveyed and reviewed against masonry wall surveillance sketches.
Only one (1) masonry wall was found to exist, and is located on the Unit 2 side of the stack.
It was identified as wall S108-2A
& 28 on Page H-13 of Appendix H in the 180-day response to the bulletin.
The other two walls, identified in our earlier
- response, were not constructed and are not considered to be required for structural purposes.
No other walls were found to exist.
