Dear Mr. Erickson:
Docket 70-8; Request for an Amendment to SNM-7 This is a formal request for an amendment to SNM-7 to provide for a conditional exemption from requirements of 10 CFR Part 70.
This action is requested to more properly reflect our current and foresee-able inventory requirements at a level of less than one effective kilogram of unirradiated SNM. Our inventory under SNM-7 has remained below one effective kilogram of unirradiated SNM for the past three years. We anti-cipate no foreseeable change in our research operations that would require an inventory in excess of one effective kilogram of unirradiated SNM.
We request an amendment to SNM-7 that would provide for:
(1) Specifically exempt from the requirements of 10 CFR Part 70 for operations conducted at a level of less than one effective kilogram of unirradiated SNM, and (2) Prior tc conducting operations at a level in excess of one effective kilogram a formal plan in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR Part 70 would be submitted for Commission approvai.

We have enclosed our check for $150 in accordance with Part 170.31 to cover the administrative fee stated in Fee Category IF.
