The application does not adequately show that the proposed canister meets the requirements of 10 CFR 171.42.
In.particular, the design of the proposed canister was not shown to t,e sufficiently similar

to the canisters ~ tested in 1975 and 1977 to support a conclusion that the performance of the proposed caniste would be similar to the performance of the tested canisters.

Provide. engineering drawings of the upper and lower spacers
'(i.e., Figure 6) that will be used with the canisters.
3.
Provide a copy of Reference (9) and show that the equation for mean crushing strength (pg. III-B16) is applicable to the post-buckling behavior of circular columns with no lateral support.
4.
Specify the maximum total weight of materials (contents, canisters and other objects) that are to be transported within the containment vessel of the cask.
Evaluate the closure of the cask containment vessel under 30-foot drop conditions (top end and top corner) considering the maximum total weight of material within the vessel.
5.
Appenddx C to Section III, which addresses containment for'the vitrified waste was not included in your June 15,.1981, submittal.
