- 2) SLNRC 80-49 dtd. 11/7/80: Subj. as Above Gentlemen:
Reference 1, as supplemented by Reference 2, forwarded to NRC a generic report covering defective Corner & Lada pipe support sway struts fur-nished to Callaway and Wolf Creek jobsites. Tne report indicated that specific sway struts would be inspected and tested for tightness prior to use-in order to confirm tightness of the paddle / bushing assembly. It was further indicated that struts found with loose bushings would be replaced.
r The purpose of this letter is to advise NRC that add'itional measures are being taken to preclude disengagement of paddle / bushing assembly.
These measures will provide for the use of conical shaped washers in all Size 2 and 3, Figure 631 sway struts. These washers are designed to prevent. disengagement of the bearing bushing from the rod paddle without jeopardizing specified design clearances and function. The use of washers is limited to the Size 2 and 3 units since other size N3 I units cannot physically accommodate such disengagement. On these other 5 j units, the inspection and testing indicated in the reference reports will continue.
