July 2, 1981 EF2-53563 Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Region III U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Ccmnission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137
Subject:
Final Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Defective GE-ISSE Welds (#31).
Dear Mr. Kelpler:
This is subnitted as Detroit Edison's final report on the Defective GE-I&SE Welds problem (reported per 50.55(e) requirements).
The problem was originally reported to Mr. P.A. Barrett of NRC-Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. T.A. Alessi, Director Project Quality Assurance on October 24, 1980. A review of nineteen (19) radiographs in the G-33 system, which is a drain line to the reactor vessel, revealed problems with seven (7) out of nineteen (19) welds. These radiographs were pre-viously accepted by a contractor that has since left the site.
All of the seven (7) welds will be repaired, and documents requiring this repair have been issued to Construction. The work will be performed as allowed by Construction schedules. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.
Very truly yours, 4
