INITIAL OPERATION OF THE SUBMERG,ED DEMINERALIZER SYSTEM (SDS) ffk On Friday, July 10, 1981, the licensee commensed processing Reactor Coolant Bleed Tank water through the submerged demineralizer system (SDS).
Shortly after startup the system was shut down to evaluate initial radiation instrument readings on the effluent of the SDS.
The readings were determined to be acceptable and on Saturday, July 11, 1981, processing resumed.
As of 0800, July 13, 19Sl. approximately 10,000 gallons had been processed.
The TMI Program Office" staff is closely following the operations of this system.
Media interest has occurred because of licensee plans to issue a press release.
The Conmonwealth of Pennsylvania has been infonn2d.
The NRC does not plan to issue a press release at this time.
This preliminary notification is issued for information only.
The NRC TMI Program Office received notification of this occurrence by monitoring
