Thank you for your letter dated March 25, 1981 concerning the proposed rule-making exemption from licensing requirements for smelted alloys containing residual :.echnetium-99 and low-enriched uranium.
In ad' ition to expressing opposition to the proposed rule, you ask whether or r:c a stipulation that the metal be used only for non-consumer goods will be considered before promulgation of the final rule.
Such a stipulation was one of the. suggestions received during the coment period.
The staff advises that this suggestion will be addressed in the response to comments accompanying promulgation of the final rule.
Notice of the proposed rule was made in the Federal Register and the press on October 27, 1980. The coment period expired December 11, 1980.
Over 3.300 public comments were received.
Coments will be reviewed and addressed in the Final Erivironmental Impact Statement before any decision is made by the Comission on promulgation of a final rule.
Sincerely,
/4-Carlton Kamerer, Director Office of Congressional Affairs e
