Dear Mr. Miller:

Based on Dr. Tek H. Lim's conversation with your staff, we would like to amend our request in our letter dated June 11, 1981, Docket No. 50-224, License No. R-101, in relation to a change in our Safety Analysis Report for the University of California Berkeley Research Reactor, February 1964 lines 21, 22 and 23 on pages 6-8 and line 1 of pages 6-9, to read as follows:

All personnel working around the reactor will be part of the medical program which is administrated by Environmental Health and Safety. This program calls for bi-annual physical exami-nations and alternate bi-annual clinical laboratory tests.

All full time operators, full time senior operators, including the Chief Reactor Operator and Reactor Supervisor, and all full time health physics personnel working around the reactor will have a physical examination every 24 months but at intervals not to exceed 28 months.

'Ihese changes were reviewed by the Reactor Hazards Committee, Environmental Health and safety and the Reactor Staff.

This change does not constitute an unreviewed safety question in that:

(1) It does not increase the probability of occurrence of an accident analyzed in the bafety Analysis Report (2) It does not increase the consequences of an accident analyzed in the 0p Safety Analysis Report 8107140702 810707 PDR ADOCK 05000244 p' P PDR -

Safety Analysis Report July 6, 1981 (3) It does not create the possibility of occurrence of nuclear accident not previously analyzed in the Safety Analysis Report.
