Gentlemen:
Earlier correspondence addressing IE Bulletin 80-21, dated December 9, 1980, and December 29, 1980, indicated additional work would be required to complete the research effort in determining if any valves installed in Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 had components manufactured by the Malcolm Foundry Company, Inc.
It was also stated that the Anchor Darling Valve Company, the subject valve supplier of the Bulletin, did not supply the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 with valves having components manufactured by Malcolm Foundry.
Since our last submittal continuous progress has been made to completely answer the concerns of IE Bulletin 80-21 and submittal of this final report completes the effort required by this Bulletin.
We have identified 3812 valves either installed or planned for use in safety related systems at Beaver Valley Unit 1.
The manufacturer of each valve was determined by performing a detailed search of plant l
records or a physical examination of each individual valve when appropriate.
Because each valve was identified as to the manufacturer, an evaluation of each valve application to determine if any can be recategorized as non-safety related was not deemed to be necessary for the purpose of addressing this Bulletin.
A total of 61 valve manufacturers were contacted to detemine if the valves supplied to the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit hm 1, had components manufactured by Malcolm Foundry.
In all cases, the valve manufacturers have stated they have no had business dealings with the Malcolm Foundry or components supplied to the power station did not have Malcolm Foundry components as part of the valve as was the case with the Anchor Darling Valve Company.
This research effort satisfies item 1 of IE Bulletin 80-21 and since no valve components manufactured by Malcolm Foundry are installed at Beaver Valley, no further action on the remaining items is necessary.
