Dear Mr. Grier:

The attached letter has brought to our attention a deficiency in the subject General Electric Power Generation Control Complex (PGCC) which has been previously reported to the USNRC by General Electric Company under the provisions of 10CFR, Part 21. The PGCC is being supplied by General Electric for use at Limerick Genera-ting Station.

The deficiency consists of loose contact blocks on CR2940 tandum block control switches which, if loosened sufficiently, could inhibit proper operation of the switch.

l We consider the deficiency described in the attachment to be a significant deficiency per 10CFR50.55(e) and are hereby notifying you as required.

We believe that the General Electric report submitted under the provisions of 10CFR, Part 21 provides the information required

! for 10CFR50.55(c) reporting. Therefore, we anticipate that this letter will be our only report to you on the subject.

Dear Dick:

SUBJECT:

LIMERICK GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 & 2 REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY - CR2940 SWITCHES - LOOSE TANDUM CONTACT BLOCKS h) This is to inform you of a condition concerning CR2940 tandum block control switches supplied on the Grand Gulf PGCC and evaluated as reportable under 10CFR Part 21. These Grand Gulf supplied devices have a defect. The switches have contact blocks that came loose during shipment to the site. Vibration during a seismic event could cause a contact block to loosen sufficiently further to inhibit proper operation of the switch.

General Electric has issued an FDI for correction of this defect at Grand Gulf and is further in the process of issuing similar formalized instruction to other sites, including Limerick, for appropriate inspection and correction. For contact blocks that are found loose, the nues holdir.g the ccr.tzet b!cck are h be locSened cna at a time, Lock-Tite applied, and then retightened.

This corrective program will be an FDDR action at the Limerick site.

Very trul urs,
