Dear Sir:

As you are aware, Maine Yankee has experienced some degradation of the Loop 2 Reactor Coolant Pump seals. Although the seal problem has stabilized, we have made a decision to advance the 1981 refueling shut down such that we commence operation on June 19, 1981. We recognize that this action will directly impact your review schedules for the Cycle 6 reload submitted in Reference (b), and we are prepared to assist your staff as necessary.

We trus t this information is sufficient to schedule the appropriate review activities; however, please contact us immediately if you have any que s tions.

Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY R. H. Groce Senior Engineer - Licensing RHG/kab 81051200T%
