Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

i.,,,

u f

l Your letter of October 31, 1981 forwarded NUREG-0737, Clarification o_f, TMI Action Plan Requirements to PGE for action.

On January 2,1981 PGE indicated, under Action Item III.D.3.4, " Control Room Habitability Requirements", that a survey of railroad transportation of toxic materials within 5 miles of the Trojan plant had not been com-pleted. This survey has now been completed, and the results show that transportation u ammonia by railroad along the east side of the Columbia River warrants additional protective measures for the Trojan Control Room.

Therefore, PGE will install redundant ammonia detectors in the Control Room Ventilation System and prepare emergency procedures for dealing with ammonia releases. The detectors will alarm and isolate the Control Room Ventilation System (CB-2).

This modification and associated emergency procedures will be completed by January 1,1983.

Sincerely,

,s Bart D. Withers Vice President Nuclear c:
