has requested that I respond directly to you regarding your letter of June 26, 1980 addressed to Chairman Curtis.

Your letter on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Botetourt County l
Chamber of Comerce, Inc., Troutville, Virginia, requested information as to when the Virginia Electric and Power Conpany's (the licensee) nuclear f
plants will be operational.
The licensee's four (4) nuclear poacr plants are the Surry Nuclear Poser Station, Units 1 and 2 (Surry 1 & 2), located in Surry County, Virginia; and the North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2 (NA-1 & 2), located in Lcuisa County, Virginia.
Surry 1 & 2 are pressurized water reactors rated at 822 Megawatts electrical.
NA-1 & 2 are also pressurized water reactors rated at 947 hegawatts electrical.
A status of Surry 1 & 2 and NA 10.2 plant operating schedules is previoed below.
(Note - The dates are subject to unexpected plant shutdowns and related slippage in work schedules.)
Surry 1 is presently operating at 100 percent power.
The licensee's schedule calls for an eleven (11) month plant shutdcun comencing in late Septe:ber 1980 in order to repair the steam generators.
Surry 2 is presently cperating at 100 percent power.
The plant's next scheduled refueling outage will commente in mid February 1982 and the plant is scheduled for restart in mid April 1982.
NA-1 is presently operating at 100 percent power.
The plant's next scheduled refueling outage will co=ience in late hovemoer 1980 and the plant is scheduled for restart in mid January 1981.
NA-2 was issued a license for fuel loading and low power testing by the Nuclear Regulatory Co:: mission (!!RC) on April 11, 1980.
This license permitted the licensee to achieve criticality o
co and to operate at power levels not exceeding five percent of -
full power.
The plant achieved criticality on June 12,19LJ S

Following completion of a successful emergency off-site exercise on August 16, 1980, the HRC issued a full power operating license for HA-2 on August 21, 1980.
Full-scale cc.:nercial operation (100 percent power) is scheduled for.mid September 1980. The plant's next scheduled refueling outage will corTacnce in Noverter
