f The GESMO proceedings should be restarted immediately because the only thing that is stalling the use of mixed oxide fuel in the USA is a policy decision. Since policy is subject to abrupt change, mixed oxide fuel could come into favor at any time.
It is,therefore, prudent to perform the grcund work that will allow expeditious implementation if and when a change in policy toward mixed oxide fuel is made.
In my opinion, the most attractive use of mixed oxide fuel is the disposal of the plutonium in the 50,000 nuclear weapons that will have to be dismantled when retson triumphs over paranoia.
