SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) UNITS 1 AND 2 - SPENT FUEL RACK CRITICALITY ANALYSIS FOR 5.0 WEIGHT-PERCENT FUEL

~ SQN is currently limited to using~ fuel assemblies having a maximum enrichment' ,

of 4.0 weight-percent uranium (U)-235. TVA plans to submit a proposed change i to-the technical specifications (TSs) for SQN Units 1 and 2 to increase the F

maximum fuel enrichment from the current 4.0 weight-percent to -

5.0 weight-percent U-235. This change will be necessary to allow the use of higher discharge burnup' fuel, Higher discharge burnups are achieved by reloading with smaller fresh batch fractions with higher enrichments. ,

The enclosed criticality analysis, which justifies an increase in the  !

enrichment limit,.is being submitted in advance of the TS change submittal to provide NRC adequate time for review.  ;

No. commitments are made in this submittal. Please direct questions concerning this issue to Bruce S. Schofield at (615) 843-6172. .
