Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 Changes to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit
Dear Sirs:
This letter is being submitted in accordance with Limerick' Generating Station (LGS), Units 1 and 2, Environmental Protection Plan (EPP), Section 3.2, which stipulates that the NRC shall be notified within 30 days following the date of 4
approval of a change to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
?Y On December 28, 1989,.the NPDES permitting agency for l
LGS, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (PA DER), approved a change to LGS NPDES Permit No. PA 0051926.
This change permits the use of blocides (chlorine and bromine)'.in the Emergency. Service Water (ESW) system and Residual Heat Removal-Service Water (RHRSW) system to prevent biofouling and possible corrosive attack.
Accordingly, we are providing this notification within 30 days following approval of this change.
A copy of a letter confirming the PA DER approval is

'Ihis is in response to your Noverber 6,1989 letter regarding the use of biocides (chlorine aid bromine) in the Faergency Service Water Systen (ESW) and l-Residual Heat Ran3 val Service Water Systen (RIESW).
j As stated in your letter, the use of these biocides is necessary to prevait I
biofouling and possible corrosive attack.
We find that the proposal appears adequate in concept aid no further permit / approval is required' from this Departmalt.

Please note that no detecedile 1cvels of chlorine or bromine shan be anowed in "I
outfall 001 due to the use of these blocides in the ESW or RlRSW. If you have i
