NRC STAFF TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS ON PROPOSED INCREASES IN LICENSE AND INSPECTION FEES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a public meeting in Arlington,-Texas, on January 17, 1990, to discuss proposed increases in-slicensing and-inspection fees for radioactive materials licensees and fee
revisions for certain special reviews.
.The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., CST,:.at the Arlington Hilton Hotel,.
2401 East Lamar Boulevard:in Arlington.
The proposed' amendments to Part 170 of the Commission's regulations were published in the Federal Register on December 1 (Vol. 54, No. 230 beginning at page 49763) and would. increase the fees for licensees possessing and.using radioactive materials under Parts 30, 40 and 70 of the regulations.
In addition, for the first time a fee for reviewing applications covering decommissioning activities by certain material licensees would be added.
Also proposed is e fee ceiling of $50,000 for the review of topical reports--a procedure by which reports on specific subjects are submitted to the NRC staff-for review independent of any specific licensing action.
An approved topical report then can be referenced in the future'rather than be subject to repetitive review.
The NRC charges fees in proportion to its costs for providing individually identifiable services to applicants for and holders of NRC licenses and approvals.
The fees are authorized by the Independent Offices Appropriation-Act of 1952. They are deposited into the General Treasury of the United States and do not augment the NRC appropriation.
