l Letters to the Editor Valley-Section - Los Angeles Times 20000 Prairie St.

Dear Sir:

on 9-28-89 a public hearing was ' held regarding the m

relicensing. of the ' hot lab at Rockwell's Santa. Susana Field Laboratory.

There-were anxious mothers and many concerned residents-2 the evening meeting in Van Nuys.

One man, Judge Bloch, employed by the Nuclear Reg'latory u

Commission (NRC), was there to listen to all of their questions and comments.

He made it quite clear that his only job is to-

- determine'whether the hot lab operates according to the-law.

q Getting accurate information from Rockwell is almost impossible for a private citizen living in the area.

In the L. A. Times, Valley Metro-Section,10/6/89, we learned further that when Judge 'Bloch asked Rockwell for information regarding all accidents that'have occurred there over te'past 20 years he was chided by NRC to " cool it"...he was told to "be more patient in-letting the case. develop by.itself".

The above mentioned news article raises a few questions in my mind:

Will the information requested by the Judge be supplied?

Will the Judge 'be called on the carpet -by tNRC for insisting on this information?

Will' Judge Bloch be kept on-the case? Will Rockwell be. excused for the numerous mishaps and breaking of laws at' the Santa -Susaa site?

' Does national security have precedence over -the health and welfare of the residents surrounding the facility?

Who is.looking out for the public's security??

Sincerely yours, i
